Talking Trends with our Creative Director Laura
Hair trends come and go, but that's the fun of it, the energy of changing fashions, colours, cuts and styles and embracing the go-to looks of the moment! A slew of trends have been emerging and are gradually gracing our social feeds, magazine covers and inspo boards (basically everywhere you look).
The shag haircut trend is in full swing, and we love it. Starting with some '70s inspired whispy fringes with long layers and turned into a full mini mullet revival. Call it what you want, wolf cut, shag or shag mullet; they all have three common elements; texture texture and more texture. It seems a lifetime ago that sleek pin-straight hair was in vogue, now everyone wants texture and volume, and it's about time! Embrace your hair's natural curl or wave and show it off with some shorter layers and sweeping fringes like a curtain framing your eyes: after all, they're the window to the soul.
Ok, so what if texture isn't your thing? Another must-have haircut coming back around is the 90's bob. We all thought the 90's revival was a fleeting fad, but the bob is proof that some things don't go out of style. Think Victoria Beckham from the spice Girls era or Natalie Portman in Leon The Professional, with sharp middle parts and soft rounded edges. Make it any length you like, from just under the ears to just above the shoulders; this style goes with everything, and you'll always feel chic.
For all you lovers of short hair, why not try a mixie? This mullet esque pixie is soft and feminine. Yes, we are looking at you, Fern Gully. Keep some length at the back hairline for a more relaxed look showing off your hair's natural texture, and maintain some length on the sideburns to add a little whimsy. This lived-in look is easy and low maintenance, requiring no styling if you so choose.
If getting a cut is a no-no for you and length is everything, we get it; it takes years to produce a rapunzel like mane; the ‘90s blowout gives some life to long hair. Using hot rollers helps to accentuate and shape your face; there are a million Tik Tok tutorials out there; if this is new to you, the end result? Some serious bounce with curls and curls of volume.
When it comes to colour, we will always be a little biased with our never-ending love affair with blondes and balayage, still being one of the most popular requests at the Maverick salon. However, we are seeing a rise in customers wanting to change things up by going red, inspired by many of the latest celebrity looks, such as Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney and Barbara Ferreria. But, if this seems too big a transition, why not gradually start with a strawberry blonde with some subtle golden highlights to keep things bright as we move away from summer into autumn.
